Watch live: Hegseth delivers speech on weapons acquisitions overhaul

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday afternoon will speak with military and industry leaders about his plan to overhaul the way the Pentagon purchases weapons.

In his remarks at the National War College, Hegseth is expected to announce sweeping changes that will allow the U.S. military to more rapidly acquire technology needed to fight back against global threats, according to a draft memo reviewed by Reuters.

The updates to the Defense Acquisition System follow an April executive order from President Trump that calls for a “rapid and transparent foreign defense sales system” and collaboration with chosen foreign partners to boost U.S. warfighting capabilities and foster a healthy supply chain.

It marks the latest reforms implemented by the Trump administration after the Defense Department changed its purchase protocol for software earlier this year, updated its grooming and health standards for service members and placed new restrictions on the press.

The event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EST.
