Trump says he’s glad ‘evil’ Pelosi is retiring

President Trump said Thursday he was glad former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was retiring from Congress at the end of her term, deriding her as an “evil woman.”
“I think she’s an evil woman. I’m glad she’s retiring. I think she did the country a great service by retiring,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked for his reaction to the California Democrat’s announcement she is ending her decades-long storied career.
“I think she was a tremendous liability for the country,” Trump continued. “I thought she was an evil woman who did a poor job who cost the country a lot in damages and in reputation. I thought she was terrible.”
Pelosi, 85, announced earlier Thursday that she will not seek reelection for another term. She has served in Congress since 1987 and was the first and so far only woman to serve as Speaker of the House.
There was no love lost between Trump and Pelosi, who clashed frequently during Trump’s first term and his time as a candidate, with Pelosi in many ways serving as the face of the Democratic resistance to Trump in Congress.
Pelosi oversaw the House when it impeached Trump twice, first in 2019 over allegations he withheld weapons from Ukraine as part of a quid pro quo, and again in 2021 after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
Pelosi recently called Trump the “worst thing on the face of the Earth.”
Trump in 2023 appeared to make light of the attack on Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, and he regularly mocked her with the nickname “Crazy Nancy.”
