De Blasio touts vote for Mamdani in ‘Hot Girls for Zohran’ shirt

Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) on Tuesday cast his vote for the city’s next mayor clad in a “Hot Girls for Zohran” T-shirt.
“One of the happiest votes I ever cast!” de Blasio wrote in a short post on the social platform X, which featured a photo of the former mayor with the shirt supportive of Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani. “What a beautiful day for NYC!”
The former mayor, who served two terms leading the city from 2014-21, endorsed Mamdani in early September in an op-ed published in the New York Daily News. De Blasio praised Mamdani’s calls for “bold sweeping action,” including a rent freeze, universal child care for children up to 5 years old and free city buses.
“We don’t just need Zohran Mamdani to be our mayor because he has the right ideas, or because they can be achieved,” de Blasio said. “We need him because in his heart and in his bones he cannot accept a city that prices out the people who built it and keep it running.”
De Blasio has long sparred with former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), particularly when they were both in office. Cuomo is running as an independent for mayor after losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary.
“He’s a bully. He’s obsessed with revenge,” de Blasio said of Cuomo in June, adding that they spoke often about the city while still in office.
“I think his understanding of New York City is a bit stuck in the 1980s and ’90s. I don’t think he feels the affordability crisis,” he added.
An Emerson College Polling/PIX11/The Hill survey of New York City residents released last week found that 50 percent of respondents backed Mamdani, while 25 percent backed Cuomo, 21 percent backed Republican Curtis Sliwa and 4 percent said they were undecided.
Cuomo’s received endorsements from former Mayor Michael Bloomberg (D), incumbent Mayor Eric Adams (D), SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and President Trump. The president told New Yorkers that they “really have no choice.”
“You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Mamdani mocked Cuomo’s endorsement, posting on X, “Congratulations, @AndrewCuomo. I know how hard you worked for this.”
Trump has called Mamdani a communist and said Jewish New Yorkers who vote for him are “stupid” in a Truth Social post on Tuesday.
