Watch live: White House holds press briefing amid shutdown, East Wing renovations

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will brief reporters Thursday afternoon as the government shutdown stretches into a fourth week, after a 12th vote on a stopgap funding bill failed a day earlier.

The briefing also comes after demolition began on the White House’s East Wing to make room for President Trump’s addition of a ballroom. Criticism has swirled over the renovations, but the president and GOP lawmakers have defended the move and recently released a list of donors for the project.

The Trump administration also moved forward with sanctions on Russian oil companies on Wednesday as efforts to end the war in Ukraine have stalled.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT.
