De Niro says Trump ‘has no empathy’: ‘He’s an alien’

Actor Robert De Niro went after President Trump in an MSNBC interview Sunday, saying that the president “has no empathy.”
“Trump does not understand anything about humanity, people,” De Niro said on MSNBC’s “The Weekend.” “He has no empathy. I don’t know where — what he is, but he’s an alien, and he wants to hurt this country.”
“It’s something deeply psychological in him, he wants to hurt people,” he added. “He wants to hurt this country, doesn’t care.”
De Niro, an outspoken Trump critic, had urged people to head to the streets in protest of the president on Saturday’s “No Kings Day.”
“The original No Kings protest was 250 years ago,” De Niro said on Instagram. “We’ve had two and a half centuries of democracy since then, often challenging, sometimes messy, always essential.”
“And we fought in two world wars to preserve it,” he added. “Now we have a would-be king who wants to take it away, King Donald I. F‑‑‑ that!”
White House communications director Steven Cheung told The Hill on Monday that De Niro is “washed up” and “hasn’t been relevant in 30 years.”
“Now, he just beclowns himself by spewing hate speech and inciting violence against others,” Cheung added.
Last year, De Niro backed former Vice President Kamala Harris’s bid for the presidency and called on his fans to support her during a tailgate for the Philadelphia Eagles football team.
