Sanders at ‘No Kings’ rally: Mega-billionaires have ‘hijacked’ economy

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said at a “No Kings” protest on Saturday that mega-billionaires have “hijacked” the economy, slamming some of the wealthiest people in the nation.

“This is about a handful of the wealthiest people on earth who, in their insatiable greed, have hijacked our economy and our political system in order to enrich themselves at the expense of working families throughout this country,” Sanders said in a clip highlighted by Mediaite.

“I am talking about Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and the other multi billionaires who were sitting right behind Trump when he was inaugurated,” he added.

While Musk spent time in Trump’s administration, the two later had a highly publicized falling out. Trump later downplayed a reunion with Musk, saying he appreciated that the tech billionaire greeted him during conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s memorial service.

“Well, Elon came over and said hello. No, it’s nothing to do with that,” Trump told reporters when questioned about if Kirk brought him and Musk back together.

“I thought it was nice, he came over, we had a little conversation,” Trump continued. “We had a very good relationship, but it was nice that he came over.”

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Musk all attended Trump’s inauguration earlier this year, getting prime seating close to the president.

In years prior, many of the same tech leaders had raised concerns when it came to Trump’s rise in the political world.
