Greene rebukes Trump administration’s multibillion-dollar bailout for Argentina

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) sharply criticized the Trump administration on Thursday for seeking to provide as much as $40 billion in financing for Argentina to help the Latin American ally stabilize its turbulent financial markets.
Greene — a staunch Trump ally who’s bucked her party on numerous issues in recent weeks — argued Argentina should not benefit from taxpayer dollars while Americans are struggling back at home. She said that’s antithetical to the “America First” agenda.
“Americans are getting decimated with high cost of living and skyrocketing insurance costs. Many of them have zero savings and some are maxing out credit cards to survive,” Greene wrote in a post on the social platform X.
“Tell me how it’s America First to bailout a foreign country with $20 [billion] or even $40 BILLION taxpayer dollars,” she added.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Wednesday that the U.S. is looking to provide an additional $20 billion in financing for Argentina — through a mix of financing from sovereign funds and private banks — in addition to the $20 billion currency swap line that the U.S. pledged to the country last week.
Greene has broken with her party in recent weeks on several high-profile issues, including on extending the enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, which are set to expire at the end of the year, raising health insurance premiums for millions of Americans.
The issue has become central to the ongoing shutdown standoff, as Democrats insist on extending the subsidies before agreeing to reopen the government.
Greene slammed her fellow Republicans for failing to try to find a solution to the looming health care premium increase, saying she is “absolutely disgusted” that insurance is about to get much more expensive for so many Americans.
“Not a single Republican in leadership talked to us about this or has given us a plan to help Americans deal with their health insurance premiums DOUBLING!!!” the Georgia Republican wrote earlier this month.
