‘No Kings’ protest organizer: ‘Anger level is way higher’ than in June

An organizer for the “No Kings” protests said she expects the demonstrations this weekend to surpass those held in June — in size and energy — pointing to what she said was the growing anger among the American public toward President Trump’s policies.

“The anger level is way higher” than it was in June, Public Citizen co-president Lisa Gilbert, one of the organizers, told USA Today.

“It’s not just policies we don’t like,” she said, “but it’s also actual chipping away at democracy, at foundational rights and prerogatives that we all expect.”

“People are saying. ‘I’ve never been moved to action before, but now I feel like I have to,’” Gilbert added.

Demonstrators are expected to take to the streets this Saturday for the second iteration of “No Kings Day” protests, after the initial day of protests took place June 14.

USA Today reported that 2,500 events are scheduled across the country, surpassing the 1,800 events that were scheduled in June.

Along with Public Citizen, the daylong series of protests is organized by Indivisible, MoveOn, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Human Rights Campaign, Working Families Power and other union and grassroots groups, the news outlet reported.

Protests will be held in major cities across the U.S., including in Washington, where demonstrators will gather in front of the U.S. Capitol. That event is expected to draw thousands of protestors.

“On October 18, millions of us are rising again to show the world: America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people,” reads the main page on the No Kings website.

Asked for comment on the protests, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson responded to USA Today, saying, “Who cares?”
