Live updates: Trump set to meet with Argentina’s president; Senate vote expected on shutdown

Hours after returning from the Middle East, President Trump has a busy day planned at the White House on Tuesday.
Argentinian President Javier Milei will make his first visit to the Oval Office. The bilateral meeting with Trump comes less than a week after the U.S. directly purchased Argentine pesos and finalized a $20 billion currency swap line with Argentina’s central bank to help stabilize the South American nation’s financial markets.
Trump will honor the late Charlie Kirk with the Medal of Freedom on Tuesday afternoon. Both chambers of Congress passed a resolution marking Oct. 14, Kirk’s 32nd birthday, as a day of remembrance. Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on Sept. 10.
The Senate reconvenes and has a vote set for Tuesday evening on the House-passed continuing resolution to fund the government as the shutdown hits the two-week mark.
