Kimmel, Colbert praise Trump on Gaza peace deal: ‘Good work on that one’

Late night talk show hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, often critics of President Trump, praised the president over the recent Gaza peace deal this week.

“There is some good news out there, because today, thanks to Trump’s newly brokered ceasefire in Gaza, all living Israeli hostages and almost 2,000 Palestinian prisoners have been released,” Colbert said Monday on CBS’s “The Late Show.”

“Okay, it’s important, credit where credit is due, Donald Trump did something good. Are we still canceled?” Colbert joked, referencing his show’s recent cancellation, which some have argued was politically motivated.

Trump on Monday visited the Middle East, where he met with Israeli hostage families and spoke at the Knesset in Jerusalem. He then traveled to Egypt for a peace deal signing ceremony.

“The fact is, the bombing has stopped, the hostages have been released, and Trump deserves some of the praise for that. And so, I know it sounds crazy to say, but good work on that one, President Trump,” Kimmel said on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

In September, Kimmel sparked a firestorm with comments on the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk that garnered a rebuke from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and a suspension by ABC.

Both Colbert and Kimmel have drawn the ire of the president over the years. Trump celebrated the comedians’ respective cancellation and suspension.

“Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE,” Trump wrote after ABC reinstated Kimmel.
