Live updates: Trump gathers smattering of world leaders in Egypt for peace deal on Gaza

President Trump is in Egypt on Monday where a smattering of world leaders have gathered in the coastal resort area of Sharm el-Sheik to sign documents related to a peace deal in Gaza.

Earlier Monday, Trump addressed the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, where he urged Israeli leaders to turn the page from warfare to peace in its fight against Hamas.

He told Israeli lawmakers that Israel had won “all that they can by force of arms” and expressed optimism about the region’s future. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not in Egypt, having turned down an invitation by the White House to attend a large gathering of Middle Eastern, European and Asian leaders.

Hamas on Monday released all 20 living hostages still being held since the October 2023 attacks in Israel, marking a major milestone in the first phase of a Middle East peace deal to end the fighting in Gaza.

The deal, however, leaves many unanswered questions about the future of Gaza.
