Watch live: Trump holds Cabinet meeting after breakthrough in Israel-Hamas negotiations

President Trump is hosting a Cabinet meeting Thursday morning at the White House, a day after the president announced that the “first phase” of a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas is set to begin.
Trump, in a phone call with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, said he believes the remaining hostages in Gaza will be released on Monday. He has also signaled plans to visit the Middle East over the weekend as negotiations continue over bringing an end to the two-year war.
The meeting also comes as the government shutdown entered its second week following a series of failed votes on stopgap funding bills and as the Trump administration continues its crime crackdown and immigration enforcement efforts across the U.S.
The White House has also teased that mass layoffs are imminent if lawmakers are unable to reopen the government. Trump also said back pay is not guaranteed for all furloughed federal workers.
The event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EDT.
