Watch: House GOP leaders give remarks on Day 2 of shutdown

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and other House Republican leaders spoke with reporters Thursday morning as the government shutdown stretches into a second day.

The press conference came as the Senate has failed to advance the House-passed stopgap spending plan that would have funded the government through Nov. 21. The upper chamber is expected to vote again on Friday.

Johnson on Wednesday suggested the shutdown could be good for President Trump’s efforts to overhaul agencies. The White House has signaled that mass layoffs are just days away.
