Newsom mocks Trump with AI-generated Marie Antoinette image

The press office of California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) updated its official X account’s profile picture with an AI-generated image of Marie Antoinette with President Trump’s face on Thursday.
“NEW PROFILE PIC!” the post read. “In honor of our Queen!”
Newsom’s press office previously used the image in a separate post referring to Trump’s plans to construct a ballroom at the White House, which will reportedly press ahead despite the government shutdown that started Wednesday.
“TRUMP ‘MARIE ANTOINETTE’ SAYS, ‘NO HEALTH CARE FOR YOU PEASANTS, BUT A BALLROOM FOR THE QUEEN!'” the post read.
A photo of Newsom, surrounded by California lawmakers and reporters, is still used as the banner image on the X account.
Antoinette was the last queen of France before the French Revolution overthrew the monarchy.
Health care is at the center of Democratic demands to reopen the government. All but a handful of Democrats are refusing to support a Republican stopgap spending measure unless it includes provisions to reverse Medicaid cuts passed in the Trump’s major tax and spending bill and extend ObamaCare subsidies set to expire at the end of the year.
Republicans have responded with dubious claims about Democrats wanting to fund free health care for undocumented immigrants.
Newsom’s press office has frequently used its X account to mock Trump, featuring capital letters and the governor’s initials “GCN,” a sign-off similar to the president’s use of his initials, DJT, on his platform Truth Social.
Last month, Trump said the White House ballroom — which is expected to be built adjacent to the East Wing and completed before the end of his term in 2029 — would be a “little bigger” than previously expected. It is estimated to cost $200 million to build, which Trump has said will not come from public funds.
Early on Wednesday, Newsom’s press office mocked Trump’s remarks about walking up the stairs at the United Nations last week, posting a photo of what appeared to be a stalled escalator at Trump Tower in New York City.
“A REAL DISGRACE. Escalator was broken at Trump Tower today,” Newsom’s press office mockingly wrote in an X post on Sept. 25. “I’ve launched an investigation into this matter.”
