Trump would head Gaza ‘board of peace’ in new postwar plan

President Trump would chair an international “board of peace” to govern and reconstruct the Gaza Strip as part of a 20-point plan released Monday by the White House, describing an end to the war between Israel and Hamas and a transition toward peace.
As chair of the “transitional” body, Trump would oversee the framework and funding for redevelopment of the Gaza Strip until a time when the Palestinian Authority, the governing body in the West Bank, has met conditions to assume governance in the Gaza Strip. Israel’s military would slowly scale back its presence.
“This body will call on best international standards to create modern and efficient governance that serves the people of Gaza and is conducive to attracting investment,” according to the plan.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair will also be a member of the body, according to the White House proposal.
The plan was announced shortly before Trump was set to give a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
The entire plan looks to lay out general conditions for a credible pathway to a Palestinian state. Netanyahu has rejected the establishment of a Palestinian state. It’s unclear if he supports the rest of the White House plan, or whether it has been shared with Hamas leaders.
