Michael Cohen predicts ex-FBI Director James Comey will be found guilty
Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former personal attorney, predicted on Sunday that former FBI Director James Comey will be found guilty in connection to the federal investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
In an interview on MSNBC’s “The Weekend: Primetime,” Cohen suggested he has looked into Comey’s role in the investigation from nearly a decade ago and has “learned that Comey was actually very much involved in the Russia investigation, in a very negative way.”
“Chances are this DOJ has every single email, every text message, every communication,” Cohen said, noting that the public has not yet seen what evidence the Justice Department has against Comey.
“I believe, likely, he will be found guilty,” he continued.
Cohen predicted federal prosecutors will find something Comey did wrong and secure a conviction against the former FBI director.
“I believe, likely, he committed a crime,” Cohen said about Comey. “I don’t know what that crime is, but there are hundreds of thousands of documents, and the government has each and every one of them.”
“All they need to find is that one,” he said.
A federal grand jury indicted Comey on charges of making a false statement and obstructing a congressional proceeding in connection with testimony he gave before the Senate in 2020. Comey has maintained his innocence, stating that he never knowingly gave false testimony before Congress.
The indictment makes Comey the first of President Trump’s many perceived political enemies to face charges.
Trump has long called for charges against Comey, whom he blames for the investigation into his campaign’s ties to Russia in the 2016 election — something he has deemed a “witch hunt.” Last week, Trump appeared to explicitly pressure his attorney general to pursue a case against Comey and other opponents.
Trump said Friday that he hopes “there are others” who will face charges, accusing Democrats of previously “weaponizing the Justice Department like nobody in history.”
