Watch live: Jeffries gives remarks with shutdown deadline, immigration top of mind

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will speak with reporters Wednesday morning, with the shutdown deadline just over two weeks away.
Jeffries and other Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill are looking to avoid a lapse in funding. The leaders have said privately that they will not draw a red line against President Trump’s “pocket rescissions,” instead allowing the courts to handle it. But they have also indicated that if Democrats are left out of spending talks, the road to avert a shutdown may get bumpy.
In recent days, the New York Democrat has pressed back against the administration’s uptick in immigration raids and pushed back on his GOP colleague’s decision to revive the probe into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
His remarks are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
