Live updates: Trump touts ‘major’ Russia announcement; US agrees to Ukraine weapons deal

President Trump is touting a “major” announcement on Russia ahead of a meeting Monday morning with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

The meeting comes a day after the president announced the U.S. would sell Patriot missiles to European allies, who could then pass those arms to Ukraine.

Trump on Sunday again expressed disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin in announcing the Patriot deal, adding, “Putin has really surprised a lot of people. He talks nice and then he bombs everybody in the evening. A little bit of a problem there. I don’t like it.”

Rutte will also meet Monday and Tuesday with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as well as members of Congress.

Both the Senate and House are back in session this week. As the House works on appropriations bills, the Senate is headed toward a Friday deadline to pass a rescissions package from the White House.
