Florida moves to rename stretch of roadway ‘President Donald J. Trump Boulevard’

A high-traffic stretch of roadway near President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., could soon bear his name.
Palm Beach County commissioners are slated to vote Tuesday evening on a resolution that would designate 4 miles of Southern Boulevard running from Palm Beach International Airport to Mar-a-Lago as “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard,” with honorary signage.
The Florida Legislature approved the designation earlier this year and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed it last month, but it requires local approval for the honorary designation to go into effect.
For official purposes, including personal addresses and emergency services, the roadway will retain its Southern Boulevard moniker, but the privately-run Google Maps service has already integrated the new name honoring Trump. If approved Tuesday evening, the Florida Department of Transportation will move forward with erecting new signage in the coming weeks.
The Trump-designated roadway would run through West Palm Beach and Palm Beach. Neither city has taken an official position on the renaming.
Several state and local governments have moved to rename roadways in Trump’s honor since he was first elected in 2016.
An analysis from USA Today in January found lawmakers in Arizona, Kentucky and Missouri mulling highway name switches to mark the 45th and 47th president after his reelection last fall, while Montana, Oklahoma and another city in Florida already have adopted new road names honoring Trump.
