Watch live: DC mayor, officials speak on safety ahead of July 4 festivities

Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) and law enforcement officials will give remarks Thursday morning on safety procedures for the district’s upcoming July 4 festivities — which typically includes a parade, concert on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol and fireworks show.

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump will participate in July 4 events at the White House, including a picnic with military families in the afternoon and a celebration in the evening.

Bowser’s remarks come nearly a month after Trump’s military parade. Despite worries about tanks impacting streets, no major damage was reported.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EDT.
