Trump, attorney lay out argument why Fani Willis should be disqualified in Georgia election case – Atlanta News First
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Former President Donald Trump and his attorney have filed their full argument as to why Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be disqualified from prosecuting him and 18 of his GOP allies in connection to an alleged attempt to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election.
Trump and his legal team continue to argue that Willis should be removed from the case because hiring now-former special prosecutor Nathan Wade, with whom Willis had a romantic relationship, presented a conflict of interest. They argue Judge Scott McAfee’s solution to remove Wade for Willis to be able to stay on the case did not resolve that conflict — and the only way to fix it is to disqualify Willis.
“President Trump has filed his opening brief in the Georgia Court of Appeals. The brief persuasively argues that the trial court should have dismissed the case and disqualified DA Willis for her forensic misconduct and the appearance of impropriety between her and former Special Assistant DA Wade, who was her lover and taxpayer-funded financial benefactor,” Steve Sadow, Trump’s Georgia-based attorney, said. “We are optimistic that the court will favorably decide the appeal in our favor.”

The push to remove Willis from the case came after an explosive court filing brought to light the district attorney’s relationship with Wade.
Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee in March found that no conflict of interest existed that should force Willis off the case — if Wade were taken off the case. However, McAfee granted a request from Trump and the other defendants to seek an appeal of his ruling.
While motions and responses have continuously been filed and made in the case, the Georgia Court of Appeals previously put a stay on all proceedings in the case. That means all hearings, arguments and other matters are on hold until the court rules on things it is currently hearing — which includes whether Willis should be disqualified from prosecuting the case.
Trump and 18 others were indicted in August 2023 by Willis and her office for an alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election in the Peach State.
