Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and prosecutor Matthew Colangelo will appear before the House Judiciary Committee for public testimony next month to discuss the case they brought against former President Donald Trump, a source familiar confirmed to the Washington Examiner.
The pair will testify on July 12 before the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government on Trump’s conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a 2016 hush money scheme. Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has been investigating the two attorneys over the last several months over allegations the pair had revived the criminal case against Trump to sink his reelection bid.
Jordan also plans to hold a broader oversight hearing related to the case on Thursday, the original date proposed for testimony, a source confirmed. That hearing will feature testimony from witnesses Trey Trainor, commissioner of the Federal Election Commission; Elizabeth Foley; and Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey.
Bragg’s testimony comes as Jordan plans other hearings related to Trump’s conviction, which could come as soon as late June or early July, according to a source. The chairman is weighing another field hearing in New York City and is considering issuing subpoenas to other officials, such as New York Attorney General Letitia James and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, who is already at risk of being held in contempt of Congress related to Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
Jordan wants to ask the two about Colangelo’s involvement in Trump’s conviction.
Colangelo is a former top-ranking official in the Biden administration’s Justice Department who left the DOJ to join the team prosecuting Trump. He also previously worked in James’s office, where he conducted investigations into Trump and the Trump Organization.

Republicans have accused Colangelo of having an “obsession” with targeting Trump for political purposes rather than having a sincere concern about crime.
“This hearing will examine actions by state and local prosecutors to engage politically motivated prosecutions of federal officials, in particular the recent political prosecution of President Donald Trump by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office,” Jordan wrote in letters to Bragg and Colangelo last month when requesting their testimony.
