Trump leads Biden by 5 points in North Carolina survey

Former President Trump is leading President Biden by 5 points in North Carolina, a new survey found.

The survey, conducted by East Carolina University’s Center for Survey Research, found that Trump has 48 percent support in the Tar Heel State, compared to Biden’s 43 percent.

Just 4 percent of respondents who said they plan to vote on Election Day say they still are unsure who they would vote for, and 3 percent say they would support an independent or third-party candidate, the survey found.

Forty-two percent of voters identified inflation and the overall cost of living as the most important issue facing North Carolinians. Seventeen percent of respondents said the general economy is the largest issue and 13 percent said the state’s abortion law is the most important issue.

Just over half, 55 percent, of North Carolinians disapproved of Biden’s performance in office; Gov. Roy Cooper (D-N.C.) outperformed the president with a 39 percent disapproval rating.

North Carolina is a key battleground state that went for Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

The polling, conducted this week, found that 29 percent of respondents said Trump’s guilty verdict in his hush money trial would make them less likely to vote for him come November.

Thirty-seven percent of respondents said a guilty verdict would have no impact on their vote.

The survey was conducted May 31 to June 3 among 1,332 voters in North Carolina. It has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.

The survey follows other recent polling that shows Trump has an edge on Biden in other key states like Nevada and Arizona.
