The Arizona attorney general’s office released a copy of the indictment Friday, April 26, 2024, that revealed conspiracy, fraud and forgery charges were filed against former Trump aide Mike Roman and attorneys John Eastman, Christina Bobb, Boris Epshteyn and Jenna Ellis. Former Donald Trump attorney Jenna Ellis has been barred from practicing law in her home state of Colorado for three years after she pleaded guilty to helping Trump try to overturn the 2020 election.
A tearful Ellis pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony charges and abetting false statements in Fulton County, Georgia, in October.
She was one of 18 co-defendants, including Trump, who were charged in a sweeping case over the former president’s campaign to reverse President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in Georgia.
The nearly 100-page indictment details dozens of acts by Trump or his allies to undo his defeat, including beseeching Georgia’s Republican secretary of state to find enough votes for him to win the battleground state; harassing an election worker who faced false claims of fraud; and attempting to persuade Georgia lawmakers to ignore the will of voters and appoint a new slate of electoral college electors favorable to Trump.
In one particularly brazen episode, it also outlines a plot involving one of his lawyers to access voting machines in a rural Georgia county and steal data from a voting machine company.
Ellis was previously censured in Colorado for making false statements over the 2020 election, including that the election was “stolen” from Trump. Those falsehoods were part of a sustained campaign by Trump allies that helped lead to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Ellis is another of the ex-president’s attorneys who have run afoul of the law and professional ethics rules, joining Rudy Giuliani, Michael Cohen, Sidney Powell and John Eastman — who have faced criminal charges and sanctions from the bar.
