CAMPAIGN 2024: A new CBS News poll shows former President Donald Trump leading President Joe Biden among likely voters nationally.
The poll shows 52% percent of those asked supporting Trump, compared to 48% for Biden. That is Trump’s largest lead of the campaign.
CBS News reports the reason is that those asked remember the economy more favorably when Trump was president, compared to what they are experiencing right now under Biden.
When registered voters were asked, “How would you rate their presidencies?,” 46% looked back at the Trump administration and rated it excellent or good, compared to 33% for Biden.
When asked whose policies would make prices go up or down, 55% said Biden would make prices go up, compared to 34% who said the same about Trump. 17% said prices would go down under Biden, compared to 44% for Trump.
When asked about illegal immigration, there was a big split on responses. Registered voters who were asked whose policies would increase or decrease the number of people trying to cross the border, 50% said Biden’s policies would increase border crossings, compared to 9% for Trump. 22% said Biden would lower the number of illegal border crossings, while 72% said the same for Trump.
The CBS News/YouGov survey was conducted with a nationally representative sample of 2,159 U.S. adult residents interviewed between February 28-March 1, 2024. The sample was weighted according to gender, age, race, and education based on the U.S. Census American Community Survey and Current Population Survey, as well as past vote.  The margin of error for the questions above is 3.5%.
