Former President Donald Trump was in Greenville Tuesday for two events ahead of Saturday’s Republican presidential primary.
Trump landed at the Greenville Spartanburg International Airport around 1:45 p.m. and greeted supporters on the tarmac.
The first event was at the Greenville Convention Center. Trump took part in a recorded town hall with Fox News’s Laura Ingraham.
“The pre-taped one-hour event will focus on the domestic and foreign policy challenges facing America and solutions for addressing them,” according to Fox News. “It will also explore the potential that a new coalition of voters will have on the presidential election and the shift in polling among minorities toward former President Trump. Additional topics will include the former president’s ongoing legal battles, the remaining primaries, his potential vice-presidential pick and other news of the day.”
Tuesday, men and women waited anxiously to get into the Greenville Convention Center. Our crews spoke with voters waiting in a line stretched around the building ahead of the taping. Many hoped Trump would address the economy.
“It’s horrible. I was telling him this morning we raised three kids, and they’re grown now. And it’s harder for us to take care of just me and him than it was five of us,” said Lisa Aguilera. “We hope that people will realize what is at stake here and wake up and go to the polls and vote.”
“I am hoping he will talk about the senior citizens,” said Judy Machynski. “Social security. And since we have been retired, it’s been harder and harder for us to live.”
The border was also a major topic on voters’ minds.
“Getting our border back,” Jesus Aguilera said. “You know, can’t have open borders because you’ve got everybody to in the world. Chinese, people from Middle East. We can’t sustain that much people. And you know we’re the ones paying for all that.”
Attendees traveled from different cities and even different states Tuesday.
“He’s going to secure the border. He’s going to grow the economy,” said Anthony Campbell, who flew from New Jersey. “He’s going to make the streets safe. I want to bring a message from New Jersey to Nikki Haley, ‘Forget about it.'”
The event also included audience questions.
Trump then attended a fundraiser in an undisclosed location in Greenville.
That event was $6,600 per person to attend the reception and $23,200 for a VIP reception and picture with the former president.
