‘CC Who?’: Coastal Carolina students protest near Trump rally, call for more transparency – WMBF

CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) – A group of Coastal Carolina University students are calling for more transparency from the school amid former President Donald Trump’s planned rally on Saturday.
Around 50 people gathered holding signs that read things such as “There Won’t Be a Fuss if You Just CC Us,” “CC Who?” and “Protect Black Chants.”
“The reason we’re here today is not necessarily that there is a political candidate coming with 91 felony charges,” said Kaci Dozer, a CCU senior who organized the protest. “The issue and why we’re here today is because of student safety. We don’t know these people. There are students in their freshmen dorms who are scared to leave their individual rooms, who are scared to leave their suites and their dorms.”
Dozer also claimed the school made students move their vehicles from a parking lot to make room for thousands attending Saturday’s event at the HTC Center.
“They don’t pay to go here,” she said. “They don’t get a bill from [the] Student Account Center. We do. They don’t have to worry about financial aid. We do. So when they show up on our campus and disrupt everything and Coastal administration allows that, that’s when we have to use our voices.”
Dozer said she and others plan to speak at the university’s next board of trustees meeting about not being notified ahead of time of Trump’s visit.
“Without students, this university doesn’t run,” she said. “And one thing we love to say about Coastal is that it’s a small school with a big school feel. But we don’t have the amenities to support all these people and then half-support our students.”
