Trump tells Iowa voters they can score win over ‘liars, cheaters, thugs … and other quite nice people’ – The Hill
Former President Trump told Iowa voters at a campaign rally on Sunday that they can win against “liars, cheaters, thugs” and “other quite nice people” in the caucuses.
“We got to have strong borders so we have to have fair and free elections or we don’t have a country,” Trump said at his rally in Indianola, Iowa. “But these caucuses are your personal chance to score the ultimate victory over all of the liars, cheaters, thugs, perverts, frauds, crooks, freaks, creeps and other quite nice people.”
“That’s a mouthful. But some of them are wonderful people I’m sure, remember that one. But some of them are nice,” he added.
This speech was part of Trump’s last pitch to Iowa voters, whom he urged to come vote in the caucuses despite the extreme winter weather in the state. Meteorologists have warned of “life-threatening” conditions ahead of the caucuses in Iowa, where some areas could see a windchill of -40 degrees.
“The Washington swamp has done everything in its power to take away your voice. But tomorrow is your time to turn on them and to say and speak your mind and to vote,” Trump said.
He also joked that it would be worth it even if caucus-goers died after expressing support for the former president.
“You can’t sit home. If you’re sick as a dog, you say, ‘Darling, I gotta make it,’” Trump said on Sunday. “Even if you vote and then pass away, it’s worth it, remember.”
It’s unclear how much the weather could impact the caucuses, as many voters are expected to stay home to avoid the blizzard conditions.
Trump still maintains a significant lead over his GOP rivals, according to the latest Iowa poll released over the weekend.
The latest NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll has Trump at 48 percent support, former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley at 20 percent and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 16 percent in the state.
