Police are still investigating who swatted the home of Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows after she ruled former President Donald Trump is disqualified from Maine’s primary ballot.
According to police, someone called in a bogus threat to her Augusta area home pm Friday around 8:15 p.m., leading to a large police response, which is known as swatting.
They took a call from an unknown man, who claimed he'd broken into the home, but that was later found to be untrue.
Police say Secretary Bellows was not at home either and that no one was inside.
Bellows says she and others in her office have been threatened non-stop since her ruling last Thursday to disqualify former President Trump from Maine’s primary ballot, saying he "engaged" in the insurrection.
“As we usher in the New Year and make resolutions for 2024, I’m hoping a resolution that a lot of Mainers will make is to take a deep breath, de-escalate the rhetoric, agree to disagree on the issues. Even issues that are extraordinarily important and do so with respect,” Secretary Bellows said.
Secretary Bellows says it will be up to a court to decide whether her decision to disqualify Trump stands.
CNN reports Trump will appeal the ruling on Tuesday as well as a similar ruling in Colorado.
