California keeps Donald Trump's name on primary ballot – NBC Montana

Donald Trump will remain on the presidential primary ballot in California.
Shirley Weber, the California Secretary of State, declined to remove Trump's name.
Weber's office released the list of certified candidates on Thursday night.
Despite calls from sthe tate's lieutenant governor, Weber kept Trump's name.
In a Dec. 20 letter to Weber, Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis urged her to "explore every legal option.

Weber responded to the letter and said her decision would be guided by her office's "commitment to and respect for the rule of law."

"Removing a candidate from the ballot under Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment is not something my office takes lightly and is not as simple as the requirement that a person be at least 35 years old to be president," Weber wrote.
Governor Gavin Newsom has said that Trump should be defeated at the polls.

There are 13 states pursuing to remove Trump's name from their ballot.
On Thursday, Maine Democratic secretary of state removed Trump from the state’s presidential primary ballot under the Constitution’s insurrection clause.
Trump's campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, issued a statement on Maine's ballot decision.
"Make no mistake, these partisan election interference efforts are a hostile assault on American democracy. Biden and the Democrats simply do not trust the American voter in a free and fair election."
