FARGO — On the same day North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum announced he was dropping out of the race, U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., endorsed former President Donald Trump for the Republican nominee for president in 2024.
Cramer made the announcement with Trump listening on during Scott Hennen’s “What on Your Mind” show on AM 1100 The Flag on Monday, Dec. 4.
“I just think that you should keep good traditions alive,” Cramer said. “So I just wanted to let everybody know that my favorite president is still my favorite president and I want him to be the next president.”
With Trump, the U.S. senator said he wants to “get back to a country of prosperity, peace and freedom,” with “lower interest rates, lower inflation and a secure boarder.”
“I can’t wait to get to work on the campaign with him,” Cramer said. “I can’t wait to get to work in making America great again.”

Trump said he appreciated the senator’s endorsement during the radio show Monday.
Cramer’s endorsement comes the same day Burgum announced he was dropping out of the presidential race. Cramer previously had endorsed Burgum for president, and said he was “waiting” to endorse Trump “out of respect for my governor.”
“I was honored to support him,” Cramer said of Burgum, “I wish him well.”
He told Trump that he would like to serve on his cabinet with Burgum if possible.
Burgum is an “outstanding person,” Trump said on the radio, who “ran a good race.”
The former president, who’s polling well ahead of his GOP counterparts for the Republican nominee, said he spoke with Cramer and told him he should stick with Burgum because he was the governor “until something happens, and something did happen.”
“You really have an outstanding man in Doug (Burgum),” Trump said. “He’s a terrific guy. He campaigned hard.”
The traction for the Burgum campaign just wasn’t there, Trump said, because it’s hard to gain traction.

When Hennen asked if Trump sees a future beyond governor for Burgum, Trump said he did. He briefly mentioned the cabinet but stopped short of offering any details.
Trump thanked Cramer for his work as well.
“Kevin (Cramer) has really done a great job as senator,” Trump said. “We’re certainly very friendly and friends.”
Hennen, also a Forum columnist, holds a weekly talk-radio conversation with Cramer, he said.
Cramer declined to name other presidential candidates that he believes should drop out when asked by Hennen, but felt that Trump was the clear choice for the Republican nomination.
“We have our nominee; we have our front runner,” Cramer said. “Donald Trump is so far ahead nobody is going to catch him.”
