BILLINGS, MT- The 2024 political season got an early start as multiple people have come out to run for Congressman Matt Rosendale’s seat who is widely speculated to be running for senate.
Early Monday morning, Superintendent of Public Instruction and current district two congressional candidate Elsie Arntzen, made a national endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
According to her campaign she is one of the first congressional candidates to endorse the former president.
“Our country is in a tailspin; the middle class is being crushed by Bidenomics, Biden’s open border is allowing fentanyl to ravage our country, and Biden’s unsteady hand has quickly descended our world into chaos. The stakes for our nation have never been higher,” Arntzen said, “I have done my homework and that is why I am endorsing Donald Trump for President. President Trump is a proven leader who had an economy that thrived, a border that was secure and wielded undeniable strength on the world stage. It’s time Republicans unite behind President Trump, close the chapter on the Biden Presidency, and Make America and Montana Great Again.”
Arntzen is also officially on the air with ads pointed at unions and Democrats, even saying she stood up to “COVID Crazies,” about school lockdowns during the pandemic.
It is important, to note that Rosendale has been long considered a Trump ally, or at least markets himself in lockstep with the former president, despite recent allegations from CNN reporting that the former president has said he wouldn’t support Rosendale in a bid for senate. Which Rosendale has repeatedly said is incorrect reporting.
This endorsement from Arntzen is consistent with the districts politics, where in 2020 the former president won the state 56.9%.
According to a conservative-leaning poll done by Fabrizio, Lee, & Associates, conservative voters in the state of Montana lean at a rate of 64% toward the former president.
On the notion of the senate race, the National Republican Senatorial Committee has recently shared new pulling information that shows Tim Sheehy is “surging,” as the Cook Political Report has shifted the Montana senate race from “Lean Democrat” to “Toss Up.”
Back in 2022 similar verbiage was used in the Washington State Senate race, as current Pro tempore of the senate, Senator Patty Murray was in a hot race versus political newcomer, republican Tiffany Smiley, despite early and mid-poll numbers showing Murray down, she won by almost 15 points.

It’s important to note that Rosendale has not announced that he’s running for senate despite widespread speculation, Arntzen has maintained if he announces that he won’t run she will step back.
In the race for the the congressional seat is also current Commissioner of Public Instruction Troy Downing, who also maintains that he will step aside if the Congressman runs for reelection.
