Donald Trump continues 2024 presidential campaign in Eastern Iowa – kwwl.com
WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) — Former President Donald Trump continued his campaign through the Hawkeye state Saturday, making a pair of stops in Eastern Iowa. He spoke to 1,700 people in Waterloo, encouraging them to support him in the caucuses and attempting to cast doubt on his recent indictments.
In a sign of former President Trump’s support, people lined up for hours, some of them as early as 7 o’clock in the morning.
“Oh yeah, I was pumped about it yesterday,” said Trump supporter Samuel Steinmeyer. “I hardly could sleep last night, I was so excited to actually see Trump and come to his first ever rally, actually, my first ever.”
The former president talked about a wide range of issues. He encouraged the crowd of 1,700 to pledge to support him in the first-in-the-nation Republican caucuses in January.
“Get them out to vote and go to their local precinct caucus meetings at 7 pm on Monday,” said Trump. “So it’s 7 pm on Monday, January 15th, and we’re asking you to bring 5 or 6 or 7 or 10 people with you, as many as you can, get them loaded up.”
Former President Trump railed against the four indictments he is facing. After spending much of the last week in a New York courtroom, Trump attacked New York Attorney General Letitia James.
“We have an Attorney General of New York, she’s grossly incompetent, she’s an evil person, she’s a terrible, terrible attorney general. People, businesses are fleeing, she goes after Trump. But she doesn’t go after murderers all over the place.”
Trump supporters we spoke with were not concerned with the indictments.
“I think that people trying to hate on him and stuff is just kinda getting more publicity,” said Steinmeyer. “Any publicity is good publicity, and it just gets his name out there, and gets it around.”
Among the Trump supporters in Waterloo was Adrian Robinson, who has been to 49 states selling Trump merchandise.
“I like Trump because I like his character,” said Robinson. “He’s always come off as very original, very relatable. And I know the man is wealthy, but it’s how he talks. He doesn’t sound like a career politician, like he’s just trying to get our vote. He really does care about America.”
Trump promoted himself as a pro life president, emphasizing the fact that he was able to appoint Supreme Court justices who helped end Roe v Wade. He also continued promoting his disproven claims that the 2020 election was rigged.
The former president also made a stop in Cedar Rapids, continuing his campaign in Eastern Iowa.
