Watch live: House Democrats weigh impacts of ongoing government shutdown

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and members of the Democrats’ House Steering & Policy Committee are holding a hearing Wednesday morning to look into the impacts of the ongoing government shutdown, now on Day 22.

The lapse in funding has sparked another round of federal layoffs, led to an increase in flight delays and cancellations and upended operations at National Parks and museums across the U.S. Millions of federal workers are also poised to miss a paycheck come Friday.

Republicans and Democrats alike have sought to place blame on the other side for the now second-longest shutdown in U.S. history. Jeffries in recent days has railed against his Republican counterparts and President Trump for refusing to come to the negotiation table over his party’s health care concerns.

“They’d rather keep the government shut down than provide affordable healthcare and extend the tax credits for everyday Americans, for working-class Americans and for middle-class Americans,” the Democratic leader said Tuesday during a press conference.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EDT.
