Mike Johnson to rally international support for Trump Nobel Peace Prize nomination

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced Tuesday that he will work with Israel’s Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana to rally support from leaders of parliaments around the world to jointly nominate President Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize for his role in securing a Gaza ceasefire deal and release of Israeli hostages.

“This is a historic moment. It deserves enormous credit and recognition on the world stage. It’s truly, truly historic,” Johnson said of the ceasefire in a press conference. “For generations, we’ve aspired to peace in the Middle East, everyone around the world, and now President Trump has delivered it.”

Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza is still in its early stages.

“No one has ever deserved that prize more, and that is an objective fact,” Johnson said.

Ohana had first announced the plans to work with Johnson to rally support for Trump’s Nobel nomination Monday. Trump himself had addressed the Knesset with a speech lasting more than an hour.

“It’s an indisputable fact that no president has undertaken the work of saving lives and pursuing peace with such determination and with such remarkable, remarkable success,” Johnson said Tuesday.

“The world is changed by these actions and strong leadership. American strength is good for free people around the world,” Johnson said.

The Speaker referenced an Israeli hostage who was freed earlier this year who said his Hamas captors treated him better after Trump won the 2024 presidential election, alleging Hamas wanted former Vice President Kamala Harris to be elected because Trump wanted to do more to bring the hostages home.

“Elections have consequences,” Johnson said. “He said or implied that Hamas was counting on Kamala Harris to win and not President Donald J. Trump. Thankfully, for the whole world, that didn’t happen.”

Johnson earlier this year suggested Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for a decline in crime in Washington, D.C., that followed the president’s takeover of the police department in the nation’s capital.

The Speaker traveled to Israel to address the Knesset earlier this year.
