Luna formally nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) formally nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize on Wednesday for his role in brokering the historic ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas to free the remaining hostages in Gaza.

In a letter to members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the Florida Republican said she was endorsing Trump “in recognition of his bold and unprecedented leadership in advancing peace around the globe,” pointing to the Gaza ceasefire as well as the Armenia-Azerbaijan agreement in August and the Congo-Rwanda peace deal in June.

“At a time when global conflict is escalating and many leaders hide behind speeches instead of action, President Trump is delivering results,” Luna wrote in her letter.

“Through tireless negotiation and direct engagement with regional partners—including Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey—President Trump achieved what many believed to be impossible: a ceasefire agreement, the release of hostages, and a framework for rebuilding Gaza and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians,” she continued.

“This was not just political theater at a United Nations General Assembly speech; it was serious, results-driven diplomacy that will save thousands of lives and restore hope to millions,” she added.

Luna said the Nobel Peace Prize ought to honor “measurable accomplishments,” noting Trump’s “work has saved lives, brought stability to volatile regions, and shown the world that American leadership still matters.”

The letter comes before the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize is scheduled to be announced.

The deadline for submitting a nomination is Jan. 31, kicking off an eight-month screening and decisionmaking process for the committee. The Norwegian Nobel Institute received 338 candidates for the 2025 peace prize, including 244 individuals and 94 organizations.

Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize multiple times in the past but has never won the coveted prize.

In June, Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) nominated the president for his role in brokering the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel. That came shortly after Pakistan announced it was nominating Trump for his “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis.”

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) in March said he nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing the president’s efforts in the Middle East.

Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) said in January 2024 that she nominated Trump for his role in brokering the historic Abraham Accords during his first term.
