White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is scheduled to address reporters Monday afternoon as the government shutdown enters its sixth day.

President Trump has stayed out of the fray on Capitol Hill, leaving lawmakers in both parties pessimistic about reaching a deal until he engages in serious talks. Democrats say Trump is the only Republican leader who can break the government funding stalemate.
