HUD plasters shutdown warning about ‘radical left’ on website

The Department of Housing and Urban Development plastered a statement across its homepage Tuesday blaming the “radical left” for threats of a government shutdown.
“The Radical Left are going to shut down the government and inflict massive pain on the American people unless they get their $1.5 trillion wish list of demands,” the website statement reads.
“The Trump administration wants to keep the government open for the American people,” it added.
Congressional Republican and Democratic leadership are at odds over government funding, with a shutdown imminent. House Republicans approved stopgap legislation Sept. 19 to keep current spending levels until Nov. 21.
However, the measure failed to get the necessary 60 votes in the Senate the same day, as did a separate, Democratic-led funding measure. Democrats refused to approve the House text as they demand a permanent extension in ObamaCare subsidies, which expire this year, and a reversal of Medicaid cuts in the tax and spending megabill.
“If the government shuts down, it’s because Republicans would rather shut it down rather than help people afford health care,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said during a press conference Monday.
Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner explained the department’s position in a post on the social platform X.
“Radical, far-left Democrats holding our government hostage are putting millions of Americans at risk of losing flood insurance, as two storms barrel toward our southeast,” Turner wrote.
“Homes could be lost and lives ruined. Democrats are risking creating a disaster,” he continued.
Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) met with President Trump at the White House on Monday, hoping to avert a shutdown during closed-door negotiations.
However, Democrats walked away from the meeting empty-handed.
The president also mocked their demands in an AI-generated Truth Social post altering Schumer’s remarks and Jeffries’s appearance after their conversation.
“Nobody likes Democrats anymore. We have no voters left because of all of our woke, trans bulls‑‑‑. Not even Black people want to vote for us anymore. Even Latinos hate us,” Schumer said in the altered video posted by Trump.
“So we need new voters, and if we give all these illegal aliens free health care, we might be able to get them on our side so they can vote for us,” it continued.
Schumer later condemned the president for poking fun at federal turmoil.
“If you think your shutdown is a joke, it just proves what we all know: You can’t negotiate. You can only throw tantrums,” the senator wrote online.
