I was the youngest of my mother’s seven sons. All seven served in the U.S. military. Four in World War II and three in the Korean conflict. Two returned with Purple Hearts and one with PTSD (shell shock in those days) from which he never recovered.
I mention this because of the openly hostile attitude toward our military by former President Donald Trump. He escaped serving in Vietnam with a trumped up (no pun intended) case of bone spurs. It was convenient that his father was a multi-millionaire.
That flagrantly unpatriotic act has re-manifested itself in his more recent comments and actions: his depiction of veterans as “suckers and losers” — his malicious comments about John McCain, (a true hero) — his refusal to allow wounded and maimed veterans to appear in parades (they didn’t comport with his own views), his castigation of Gold Star parents who dared to oppose him, and the list goes on.
It is this crass behavior along with his autocratic policies and amoral lifestyle that lead me to ask my like minded fellow citizens to vote against him in November — for no less than freedom and democracy and decency are on the ballot.
