Left Is Calling for Trump Lawyer to Step Down After Advising on Fake Electors Plot – The Messenger
Liberals in Wisconsin are calling for Jim Troupis, a former judge and Wisconsin lawyer who was heavily involved in former President Donald Trump's efforts to subvert the 2020 election, to step down for advising fake electors who settled a lawsuit earlier this month.
“He [Troupis] never should have been reappointed after his role in the MAGA conspiracy to undermine our freedom was public,” Mike Browne, deputy director of the liberal advocacy group A Better Wisconsin Together, said in a statement, referring to the Trump campaign slogan, “Make America great again.”
Calls for Troupis to step down come after the fake electors in Wisconsin agreed to a settlement where they acknowledged that President Joe Biden won the 2020 election. As part of the settlement, the electors also agreed not to serve as presidential electors in 2024 or in any election where trump is on the ballot. They do not have to pay any damages.
Despite the electors' settlement, Troupis and former Trump lawyer Kenneth Chesebro, are still defendants in a lawsuit filed against them.
Since 2020, Troupis has served on the Judicial Conduct Advisory Committee, which gives formal opinions and informal advice to judges and judicial officers related to the code of judicial conduct, including actions in compliance with the judicial code of conduct.
“And he certainly shouldn’t continue to serve in any position of public trust now. If he doesn’t have the decency to step down on his own, the right-wing justices who wrongly supported his re-appointment should step in and remove him,” Browne continued, referring to Troupis' spot on the panel.
Troupis played a key role in the fake electors scheme in Wisconsin when he asked U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson’s staff to haveJohnson deliver the documents from the fake electors in Wisconsin and Michigan to Vice President Mike Pence, which Pence's staff refused to accept according to the Associated Press.
